Kaimaktsalan ski centre: a guide to the season

The Voras-Kaimaktsalan ski centre

When it opens, how many runs it has, how far it is from Palaios Agios Athanasios and what to know before you drive up.

The Voras – Kaimaktsalan ski centre is the highest in Greece, with runs between 2,020 and 2,480 metres. It is 17 km from Palaios Agios Athanasios, the closest settlement to the slopes.

When does it open? The season usually starts in early December and runs until late April, always depending on the snow. Thanks to the altitude, Kaimaktsalan holds its snow longer than most Greek ski centres.

Runs and lifts. 14 runs, about 15 km in total: 8 easy, 2 very easy and 4 intermediate. They are known for being wide with gentle gradients, which makes the centre a good fit for families and beginners. There are 6 lifts: 1 chairlift and 5 drag lifts.

What you will find up there. A ski school, equipment rental, a lodge with a snow bar at 2,069 metres and a snowboard park.

Before you go up. Check conditions and which lifts are running on the day: the ski centre's phone is +30 23810 32000. In winter, always carry snow chains: see the routes and tips for driving in snow. Start early: the car park fills up at weekends.

After skiing. The village is about half an hour back down, for dinner by a fire or straight back to Forest House or Nest Suite.
